Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA),  you can request a copy of your immigration records from the U.S. government.  A request made under FOIA is often useful, as it can produce documents you do not have in your possession, or reveal the information and documents the government has with respect to your immigration case. If you have an immigration history, a FOIA request is often a wise first step to take before proceeding with your immigration case.

Wait times for FOIA records can take anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending upon the agency from which you are requesting records. However, there is an expedited track available to you if you are in Removal Proceedings.
